Top Mint Hill NC Chiropractor Explains Nutritional Guidelines & Food Industries
Nutritional guidelines are confusing due to food industry pressure. The food industry likes to use scientific jargon to confuse consumers or make advice more ambiguous. What exactly does it mean to the average consumer to “choose meats, poultry and fish that will reduce saturated fat intake?”
The food industry understands how to play, and win, at the name game. Remember when aspartame, the common artificial sweetener in chewing gum and diet drinks, came under the gun for being linked to several significant health problems, like migraine headaches and cancer? What did the chief manufacturer do? They renamed it as aminosweet!
Food Lobbyists Explained by Mint Hill NC Chiropractor
Food lobbyists are often funded by large food companies. For instance, the Center for Consumer Freedom (or CCF) is a group that lobbies against obesity-related campaigns. The argument in Washington that campaigns to increase public awareness of obesity for those that regulate food choices in schools should not be carried out. Interestingly enough, the CCF is funded through donations from big food companies such as Coca-Cola, Cargill, Tyson Foods, and Wendy's.
The food industry doesn't like critics. According to one 2008 article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (or JAMA) the Center for Consumer Freedom boasted that their strategy was to shoot the messenger by attacking activists’ credibility as spokespersons. And they do a good job of it! They called Dr. Marion Nestle, the author of Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health, a hysterical anti-food-industry fanatic.
