Mint Hill NC Chiropractor Talks about the American Diet Part 2
Let's continue our talk about the Standard American Diet, or SAD diet, focusing on meat consumption. First, let's discuss How much meat we actually need to consume per day, based on our protein requirements. I do not plan to discuss whether or not we need to consume meat for protein versus meeting those requirements through proper food combining of various legumes, fruits, and vegetables.
According to a Mint Hill NC chiropractor, the average American needs about 8 ounces of meat per day to reach protein requirements. How much does the average American eat daily? About 25 ounces a day!
It is important to note that the above requirements are based on someone who is not very physically active. For someone who exercises regularly or the seasoned athlete or those who engage in weight training, most health researchers agree that those individuals do have a higher need for protein.
Okay, so the average American eat a lot of meat. What is the harm in that? Too much protein required an excessive amount of vitamins and minerals to be used in digestion. This can actually lead to B6, zinc, calcium, and magnesium deficiencies. Consuming too much protein in one meal causes excessive stress on the liver. Uric acid, which builds up in the body from consuming high amounts of meat, can lead to conditions such as gout and arthritis.
